History
NAIC-Norman Addiction Information & Counseling, Inc., Norman, Oklahoma, was founded in 1972 through an initial grant provided by the National Episcopal Churchwomen. With those funds and matching gifts from Norman civic leaders, NAIC first opened its doors in September 1972.
In 1973, NAIC was accepted for funding by the United Way of Norman, Inc and in 1975 the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.
In 1996, NAIC relocated to 215 W. Linn Street, Norman, Oklahoma. The purchase of this building was made possible through grants from the Sarkeys, Kerr, Mabee, and McCasland foundations.
In 2002, H. N. "Sonny" Scott was appointed as Executive Director/CEO of NAIC. Sonny has had over 26 years experience working as a prison warden, and has witnessed the effects of alcohol and drug abuse. At the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, Sonny supervised, implemented and provided treatment programs as part of the inmate rehabilitation program.
Today NAIC provides over 20 different programs that offer a full spectrum of services from prevention to aftercare for clients of all ages. NAIC is certified for outpatient, intensive outpatient and gambling treatment services by The Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) has accredited NAIC's Prevention, Drug Court Treatment, Outpatient Treatment and Lifeline programs.
NAIC is supported through the United Way of Norman, Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, grants, foundations, individual gifts, and memorial contributions. NAIC also accepts Medicaid, insurances and sliding scale fee for services.
